Retro-Post: Day 6: Kaoh Siung/Taipei

Due to the fact that Aunt Alice visited Kaoh Siung a lot she decided that there wasn't much to see in the main city so instead she and Ah-Mei decided to take me to Cijin which is known as the Long Island of Taiwan.

But first...breakfast! We went to this little cafe run by a cousin of Ah-Mei's. I've been getting lazy about taking pictures of my food since it's starting to get troublesome.

Do you know this word?
It's actually 4 words! (日日有財)
Ah-Mei drove us to this little harbour area. It had giant crabs and shells and fish everywhere...so cute!

Next we headed down the way to a beach with black sand full of shells. Shells! I could have stayed there all day looking at shells. It's surprisingly hard to find a beach with shells anymore.

Close by to there was a long tunnel and at the other end, a beautiful view of the water.

Blurry but there are drawings on the ceiling of the tunnel that light up.

Coming back out of the tunnel we walked up the stairs to another fort. There are a lot of forts in the south.

It's ferry time! We went on the ferry to a little island.

A lot of people take the ferry and head straight towards the shaved ice. So did we!

Preparing for what...?

What what?!?

Lunch...not good at all

Ah-Mei: green tea matcha ice with red bean and taro
Aunt Alice: mango ice with mango
Me: strawberry ice with watermelon because fresh strawberries are out of season

After the delicious shaved ice, Ah-Mei and my aunt decided that I would enjoy the artsy area of the island. The art pieces were really cool! They also had these two mascots that appeared everywhere. The sucky thing about being taken around in a car is that you simply can't take pictures of everything you see.

This was a popular art piece, the train station on the wall. Ah-Mei directed me into every pose and wouldn't let me stop until she was satisfied. Taiwanese people and their pictures...

So sad! This penny machine didn't work!

Hahahahha!

Made of storage containers

In case you can't tell, the pop tab is painted onto the can. Great illusion!

Really big melons dangling from trees

Our train was in the afternoon so we headed back. That was the end of my time in Kaoh Siung. I personally would have loved to go more into the main city but I can't argue with being chauffeured around and I was very grateful for Ah-Mei to take the time to do so since she has a salon to run.

Huge cargo ship! See the tiny boat leading it out to sea?

Taiwan's high-speed trains

I got burned playing in the south which is annoying. I had the umbrella out all the time, sun screen applied twice a day and the only time the umbrella was down was for pictures but the heat is high in southern Taiwan. Still, it was fun! But I must admit that I was happy to head back to Taipei and the city because I could get to places without taking a taxi or being driven around.

Returning to Taipei we decided to head to another night market that we'd never been to. This one was near the Taipei University so the stores were marketed towards students, definitely somewhere to head back to shop. But food-wise it was difficult to find. Aunt Alice had researched the place and we tried to find the things that this market was famous for. We found 2/4 things and personally, not a fan but the locals must love it because the lines were really really long!

Sugared frog eggs with milk

The bun was nice but didn't really like the stuff inside which
was pork, sour veggies and cilantro-type stuff

Not famous but not bad!
It's a pork sausage wrapped in a sticky rice sausage
End of Day 6!
